Growing up, coffee served a fairly utilitarian purpose in our household. My parents would always buy the massive containers of coffee, which would later be moved to the garage to be used for storage once the coffee was gone. Somehow, over the years coffee has evolved from being a morning pick me up into an indulgence during the hot afternoons.
As I've aged, I've discovered the wonder of a good iced coffee on a hot summer afternoon. I am not speaking of a simple cup of sweetened hot brew, but rather a heavenly cup of shaved ice filled with strong coffee and sweet creamer. When I am really in need of a pick me up, a shot of caramel or chocolate flavoring is always a plus.
The real question is this: is this a good thing, or really just a dessert in disguise? The answer, for me, has always been that this concoction is a much needed treat on a hot summer day. Nothing helps me refocus like a good cup of iced coffee. With that said, in order to do its job, it must remain as an occasional indulgence.
On most days I stick to my hot cup of utilitarian brew, flavored with an awesome Natural Bliss Creamer from Coffee-mate. For a real pick me up, give me a big cup of iced coffee with caramel creamer and caramel ice cream topping mixed in any day.
