Whichever I am currently using.
If you could travel back in time, what era would you live in? The Jurassic Era.
What’s your favorite meal? Do you cook?: Steak...no, I don’t cook (wait, does microwaving count?)
Three things you cannot live without…Josie (wife), Kilo (dog), breathing.
I am a member of the Coffee-mate Brew Crew.
I have a friend who likes peanut butter and pickle sandwiches on pumpernickel bread. No, I’m not kidding. And I know she’s not kidding as when I told her I don’t believe her, she insisted I watch her eat said sandwich (I’m told that my facial expression ranged from to disgust to abject horror.) Snap poll: Do you, or any of your friends, eat any food combinations as ridiculous as that?
Of course taste is highly subjective. For example, if you listen to my wife, you’d think I enjoyed some highly suspicious flavor combinations, like Orange flavored Chicken and Hawaiian Pizza (with pineapple and ham). You see, Josie has a thing about mixing fruit with her proteins, and by “a thing,” I mean that it repulses her.
I have also found that just because you like two different food items, doesn’t necessarily mean they go especially well together. I love bacon and I love chocolate. When I heard there was a bacon chocolate bar, my mouth instantly watered. However, upon tasting it, my review was a big, resounding, “Meh.” I found that not only didn’t it enhance the flavors, but they actually seemed to be fighting with each other for supremacy, and they both lost.
Of course, it’s more fun to talk about our favorite things to eat together, like coffee with a hefty side of bacon, especially when you put as much Coffee-mate in my coffee as I do. It’s tough to beat that smoked, saltiness of the bacon, when combined with the hot, sweet coffee (I rarely drink iced-coffee, even in the summertime). Rather than fighting, these two treat each other like old friends who haven’t seen each other in a while, warmly embracing, before sitting down together to recall fond memories.
As a matter of fact, coffee makes a lot of foods better. It’s great with pretty much all baked goods, like muffins and chocolate chip cookies, eggs, pancakes, and actually, anything “bready,” like sandwiches. As far as meals in general go, I usually drink coffee with breakfast, but never with dinner. It is odd that I wouldn’t drink coffee while eating steak, and yet, one of my favorite restaurants makes an incredible skirt steak with a coffee-infused barbeque sauce that is to die for. I also love coffee flavored ice cream but not a big fan of coffee with ice cream.
Assuming you’ve read the title of my blog, you know my favorite combination. I can live very contently if every gift I ever got was coffee (with Hazelnut Coffee-mate) and Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups. If bacon and coffee are like two old friends, then Reese’s and hazelnut-flavored coffee are like long lost lovers, finally reunited, sharing a passionate three minute moment (that’s about as long as the chocolate part would last). The salty-sweet Reese’s perfectly complements the coffee in a way that makes any day feel awesome! In fact, when I start off my day in a not-so-great mood, I’m not ashamed to admit that I’ve had that combo for breakfast (I’m a professional…don’t try this at home).
So, there you have it my favorite coffee combinations (and my wife’s least favorite food combinations). What about you guys? What are your faves? And least faves?
